Silent Gliss is thrilled to feature at HIX LDN 2024, held at London’s renowned Business Design Centre (BDC) on 27th and 28th November 2024. The event embraces the theme “A Sense of Place,” exploring how hotels and their designs can reflect and deepen their connection to local surroundings and heritage.
Experience the Future: Smart Hotel Room Showcase
This year, Silent Gliss is transforming its meeting room at the BDC into an advanced mock-up of a "Smart Hotel Room," in collaboration with Bodhi. This installation highlights Silent Gliss’ innovative shading systems integrated within Bodhi’s SaaS room management system, offering a demonstration of the potential for seamless, connected room environments. Visitors will discover how hospitality providers can integrate Silent Gliss curtain and blind systems into any control system, achieving a high level of adaptability and integration. Rako lighting control complements the installation, creating a fully connected room experience that allows guests to explore the benefits of smart design and automation in hospitality. Special thanks go to Hypnos Beds, whose luxury bedding adds an extra layer of comfort to this showcase, illustrating how design and technology come together to elevate the guest experience.
Connecting Heritage with Hospitality
On 27th November at 2 pm, Silent Gliss will host an exclusive event in its London Studio, located within the BDC, unveiling in-depth research conducted by Historic Productions. This research delves into the BDC's rich history, originally established as the Royal Agricultural Hall, and its transformation into the cultural landmark it is today. Silent Gliss, as the last remaining original tenant, brings a unique historical perspective to the BDC, embodying a deep-rooted connection to the building’s past. The findings from Historic Productions trace the BDC’s evolution, capturing its time as a circus hall, livestock market, and community hub. This historical context serves as inspiration for HIX 2024’s innovative project in which five leading design studios will reimagine the BDC as a conceptual hotel. By drawing on these socio-cultural layers, the studios will create design interpretations that bridge history with modern hospitality, bringing a fresh vision to the role of heritage in hotel design.
Why History Matters in Hospitality Design
For hoteliers, developers, and designers, understanding a building’s history offers a unique pathway to creating spaces that resonate with both their environment and guests. Silent Gliss aligns with this philosophy, believing that recognising and incorporating heritage can elevate modern hospitality design. Through our innovative shading systems, we aim not only to deliver functionality but also to enhance the atmosphere of each space. By hosting Historic Productions' research, Silent Gliss aspires to foster discussions on how heritage can influence contemporary hospitality projects, creating authentic, place-specific experiences.
All attendees are invited to visit the Silent Gliss studio at the BDC, exploring the temporary "Smart Hotel Room", and discovering how heritage and technology can shape the future of hospitality. Don’t forget, whilst visiting our Studio you’ll have the opportunity to see a wide range of contemporary and classic L.Ercolani furniture from our partner Ercol.
